International Consultations
Following the release of the recently updated Faculty of Occupational Medicine Ethics guidance, Occupational Health are no longer able to conduct international consultations (clinical appointments / assessments) with staff/prospective staff when they are not based in the UK at the time of the appointment.
This is for various reasons. They include being unable to confirm that we meet the regulatory obligations for the country the person is in, the fact clinicians are not licenced to practise in that country, and possible safeguarding concerns, for example if a patient needs onward referral for immediate clinical care, clinicians do not have the knowledge of local systems to support the person accessing this care in their location.
Occupational Health can receive information from staff / students who are overseas and are able to provide policy information on immunisation requirements as that is not a direct clinical consultation. It does not change the paper-based screening activities. The Service however cannot complete any face-to-face / telephone assessments until the individual is in the UK. If further health information is required, information could be provided by their local treatment team to aid the paper-based assessments.
